Google announced strategic partnerships with Visa and MasterCard to enable Android Pay users to pay online at retailers that accept the Visa Checkout and Masterpass payment systems. This is quite convenient, for Android Pay lets users authorize transactions based on these popular systems with just a single password or fingerprint, assuming their device has a scanner for the latter.
According to Google, Android Pay’s open platform will also make payment integration easy for merchants and developers. For example, merchants who activated Visa Checkout or Masterpass on their sites will have payment buttons updated automatically to correspond with Android Pay.
Alas, it will take a while before the integration is fully complete. Google says we should expect the Visa and Masterpass-compatible Android Pay in early 2017.
