Lenovo’s ZUK Z2 is a fairly new smartphone powered by Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system. Even though this is considered a flagship device, there’s no telling whether or not it will receive an Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade in the future.
The good news is ZUK continues to offer maintenance updates to those who purchase the Z2 beginning June, 2016. One of the first important updates that’s now rolling out to ZUK Z2 units brings some changes that improves some of the phone’s features.
Although the update is rather small (around 147MB), it’s enough to make some important changes that improve the camera and the volume levels. If you’ve been disappointed by the quality of the night pictures that the ZUK Z2 shoots, you’ll be pleased to know that the update enhances the focus of the camera when you’re trying to capture night shots.
Also, the official changelog mentions that ZUK made some under the hood improvements to the volume levels for the hands-free headset. In addition, ZUK Z2 owners won’t have to connect to a Chinese sever in order to download or access any information using a VPN.
More importantly, the update contains the October security patch, which brings ZUK Z2 up to date with the latest security update released by Google. Hopefully, ZUK will continue to provide these security patches that address flaws and exploits found in the Android software.
It’s also worth mentioning that the update should also upgrade ZUI to version 2.3. It’s unclear whether or not the update will be available outside China, but we do know that it’s delivered OTA (over the air) in stages.
