Tinder’s new Smart Photos feature could bag you 12% more matches

Remember the Twitter selfie bot that used an algorithm to rate your photos? Well, Tinder has taken that idea to the next level. No longer will you need to worry about which selfie to choose for your Tinder profile because Tinder is going tell you.

When enabled, the popular dating app’s new feature, Smart Photos, will show your uploaded pictures (of which there are a maximum of six) to potential matches in a random order. Once it ascertains which photos get the most interaction, Tinder will then re-order them, prioritizing the most popular.

It’s a simple idea that simultaneously reduces the anxiety of assessing photos of yourself while improving the odds of getting a match. In a test group, Tinder said Smart Photos resulted in a ‘12 percent’ increase in matches.

But what about the reason behind under-performing photos – did Tinder have anything to say about common selfie mistakes? Michael Hall, the data science lead at Tinder said people tend to swipe left more frequently if you are:

• Not smiling
• Covering your face, even a small portion
• In a group of people
• Wearing a hat
• Wearing any kind of glasses

Based on the research , gangster rap artists may not be getting as much action as you might think.
