Samsung has confirmed that it only plans to sell 4G-enabled smartphones in India from now on. The high-speed mobile internet technology – which has been rolling out in India since 2012 – is still seeing growth in 2016, most recently being adopted by Reliance Jio. Samsung’s decision to sell smartphones exclusively with 4G capabilities could see it further cement itself in the growing Indian market.

“Nearly 80 percent of the smartphone users have shifted to 4G-enabled handsets,” said Samsung Electronics’ VP of mobile business for India regarding the announcement, adding that the business decision “shows that Samsung is serious about the Indian market, where it is already enjoying 48.6 percent market share.”

This news coincides with Samsung’s introduction of its new and improved My Galaxy app, which seeks to deliver entertainment such as music, video and gaming features, in addition to billing and credit services, health data and more (Samsung calls it the ‘all-in-one’ app). The app is being updated on all Samsung Galaxy smartphones in India running Jellybean or above and can be downloaded separately from the Google Play Store.
