Samsung has a brand new entry-level smartphone that’s called Galaxy Grand Prime+, or Galaxy J2 Prime — depending on market. Both names designate the same device, model number SM-G532. We’ve heard about this new Samsung handset quite many times until now, and today we can actually take a look at it.

The Galaxy Grand Prime Plus / Galaxy J2 Prime looks a lot like the Galaxy Grand Prime from 2014, the only truly noticeable differences being its patterned rear cover, and the LED flash that’s paired with the 5 MP front-facing camera.

Powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6737T processor, the new Samsung smartphone features LTE connectivity, a 5-inch IPS display with 540 x 960 pixels, an 8 MP rear camera with its own LED flash, and a 2600 mAh battery. The device further comes with 1.5 GB of RAM and 8 GB of expandable storage space, though some variants may have 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB or 32 GB of internal memory.

The Galaxy Grand Prime Plus / Galaxy J2 Prime runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. We don’t know if Samsung is planning to update this handset to Android Nougat, but we have a feeling it won’t do it.

Right now, we’re seeing the Galaxy J2 Prime as being available only in Russia, where it costs around $140 (mind you, prices in Russia are almost always higher than in other markets, and we don’t think this device should cost more than $100 in the US — assuming it’ll ever be sold there). The new phone has three color variants: black, gold, and pink. Would you buy any of them?
