Raw video shows smoking Samsung Galaxy Note 7

You’ve heard all about the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 exploding, but  the images you’ve seen of these incidents were all taken well after the fact. Now, the Associated Press has obtained a video that shows what happened just seconds after one of the phablets started smoking. Images from a security camera shows Dee DeCasa in her home in Honolulu rushing into a room carrying the smoking handset. She puts the device into a tray made of foil as her husbands tries to help in the background. Luckily, it appears that a plastic case that she had on the phone saved her from injury.

Ironically, DeCasa was in another room looking up Samsung’s website to see if she should be worried about her Note 7 exploding. «Then boom, there was like a pop,» she says. «I had it in my hand and then smoke started spewing out, this green yucky thing.» She called the police, and when they arrived 20 minutes later, the phone was still smoking. A Samsung representative was scheduled to visit the home yesterday, but there has been no word on what was discussed at any meeting.

In South Korea, Samsung’s home country, a senior official at the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards says that it has taken the agency longer than expected to figure out what is going on. Oh Yu-cheon, a senior official at the agency which oversees product recalls, thinks that a new and separate defect has led to the explosions of the replacement units.

As for DeCasa, she says «I love the phone, but will I buy another one? Heck, no.»
