Today I’m going to do a review on NewerTech’s NuGuard KX case. I’ll be honest with you, I really like the KX because its grippy and velvety? It is one of the bigger iPhone cases that I’ve reviewed which may bother some people.

For my NewerTech Nuguard KX review, I’ve given this case a score of 4.4 Ehs out of 5. This makes it one of the higher rated iPhone 6 cases that I’ve reviewed over the last two years. The only downside is the size which is something I mentioned 17 seconds ago.

At MobileREviews Eh, we base everything we do on actual usage so when we see a drop-test video of an iPhone 4 done by a bunch of people wearing blue lab coats, well, we just drop the Phone. We noticed the case has a bit more spring than normal cases so we incorporated a little kick into the test as well.

For design, the NewerTech has a smorgasbord of fluffy marketing words to describe the KX. Words including kinetic energy, revolutionary technology and x-orbing which sounds like something you’d do while smush as Jake Peralta would put it. Lower down on the page, they’ve added “Hyper-Advanced” in front of x-orbing!. NOICE.

Now looking past all that fancy verbiage, you can actually feel the gel that they use. The inside of the case is coated in velvety cloth which, if my iPhone was self-aware, would probably say “This is the most comfortable case ever”. Seriously, the x-orbing gel is like a memory foam mattress for my iPhone!

The inside of the case is actually compressible so NewerTech wasn’t kidding about the gel. The outside of the case isn’t velvety but is covered with a lot of texture which GREATLY improves the handling of the iPhone. In fact, it is grippier than the Speck CandyShell Grip in my opinion BUT my dear friend, Agata, says the CandyShell Grip is grippier because it is smaller in her hand.

As I mentioned earlier, this is a massive case. The bulk isn’t terrible on the regular 6s but it makes the 6s Plus feel really big so if you have smaller hands, don’t go with this case.

All the extra texture on the NuGuard KX also means that it doesn’t slip around like an air hockey puck on a flat surface.

When it comes to protection, as you saw earlier, you’re iPhone can take a beating. In fact, I didn’t show the full drop test. Rather than dropping it from 5 or 6 ft, I went to 10 or 12. You know, normal drop heights…

The case fits the iPhone well so dust and debris shouldn’t be a big issue over the long term.

I didn’t come across any issues with accessing the iPhone inside the case. If I had to be picky, the buttons on the case could be a little easier to use but that’s me going out of my way to find something wrong.

The mute switch and ports are easily accessible through the thick case. Again, using your iPhone in this case is pretty awesome because of the extreme grip it provides for the iPhone.
