Nokia confirms presence at MWC 2017, but smartphone announcements are not guaranteed

There’s definitely some excitement in the air when it comes to Nokia, as the Finish company is expected to announce new handsets in the coming months. After the unfortunate Microsoft episode, Nokia has decided to license the commercial rights for its brand to HMD Global, for the next 10 years.

The first phones manufactured by HMD Global should be announced later this year, though it’s unclear whether or not they will hit shelves by the end of 2016. However, we do expect new Nokia smartphones in early 2017 and one of the places where these device might be announced is Mobile World Congress.

The technology trade fair is to take place next year between February 27 and March 2, and Nokia will among the many companies attending the MWC 2017. In fact, Nokia’s president and CEO, Rajeev Suri, will deliver a keynote at the trade fair.

Unfortunately, Nokia’s presence at MWC 2017 does not guarantee a smartphone announcement. Even though rumors claim that at least two handsets will be unveiled early next year, nothing points to a February reveal yet.

Nokia fans are probably used to following the company’s announcements every year at MWC, one of the events that the company prefers for unveiling its new products. That didn’t happen for a while, so there’s no point in getting too excited just yet.
