Emporio Armani Connected is the company’s first hybrid watch

If you’re a fashionista with an expensive taste, looking for a fitness tracker, Emporio Armani’s new hybrid connected watch may interest you: the watch may not have a touchscreen but it does pretty much everything that a FitBit does. Or conversely, a $99 FitBit does everything this hybrid watch does, so personally, I’m going to stick with the option that’s kinder on my wallet.

As you probably know, Armani is a fashion giant that offers extravagantly-priced clothes and shoes all the way to luxury watches. And now, it’s joined forces with Fossil to bring the Emporio Armani Connected, a hybrid watch that looks like a classic timepiece but is actually a bit smarter. As I’ve mentioned, the watch face is an analog one – no rotating bezels or multitouch support. However, once paired with a smartphone app, not only can this hybrid watch track your sleep patterns and activities, but it will give you notifications and let you control music and take photos among others.

There are a lot of hybrid smartwatches out there, and according to Armani, the Emporio Armani Connected is different because it has a second time zone – of course, for those who travel frequently, this feature might be useful, but I’m not sure if it qualifies as a differentiating factor or if it justifies the jaw-dropping price tag of up to $400.

Like most other hybrid watches, the battery life on the Emporio Armani Connected is perhaps its biggest advantage over smart smartwatches like Android Wear devices or the Apple Watch. Because having a touchscreen and a slew of other features limit the watch’s battery life to two or three days max, Armani’s approach allows for its watch to last up to six months with its quartz batteries.

Armani’s watch is available in rose gold (of course), black, gunmetal, and stainless steel, and you also have a choice between a three-piece link and a leather strap.
