The Predator 17X is a 17.3”, 10 lb. desktop replacement gaming rig with a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7-6820HK quad core 45 watt unlocked CPU, 32 gigs of DDR4 RAM (64 gigs max), a fast 512 gig PCIe NVMe SSD, 1 TB HDD, Killer DoubleShot WiFi + Ethernet and an RGB backlit keyboard with macro keys. We look at the high end model with a wide color gamut 4K IPS matte display and NVIDIA G-Sync. This laptop has the desktop NVIDIA GTX 980 rather than the mobile part, and performance is noticeably stronger compared to the 980M. Our unit is priced at $3,199, and it’s $2,799 with a 1080p display. When refreshed, we expect that Acer will move to the mobile GTX 1080. This laptop competes against higher end Alienware 17 configurations and other boutique gaming notebooks.
